Chiropractic care focuses on both the musculoskeletal system and the nervous system and is commonly used to treat back pain, pain in the joints of the arms or legs, neck pain and headaches using a drug-free, hands-on approach. We use gentle, safe and non-invasive therapies that stimulate your body's natural healing force to restore and maintain health. And, our focus is always on your whole person and not just on your symptoms.

The most common therapeutic procedure performed by doctors of chiropractic is known as a "spinal manipulation" and also referred to as a "chiropractic adjustment." Our primary objective is restoration of joint mobility by manually applying a controlled force unto the joints that have become hypomobile - or in other words, restricted by movement.

Hypomobility

Hypomobility can be caused by single trauma such as an improper lift of a heavy object, or through repetitive stresses, like sitting at the computer all day in a less than desirable posture. In either case, injured tissues can undergo physical and chemical changes that can cause further damage and present as inflammation, pain, and diminished function for the patient. "Manipulation" or an "adjustment" of the affected joint and tissues can restore mobility as well as alleviate pain and muscle tightness.

Chiropractic rarely causes discomfort. However, some patients may sometimes experience mild soreness or aching after the treatment (as with some forms of exercise) within 12-48 hours following treatment. Post-treatment soreness can easily be remedied by proper application of ice packs and it is commonly recommended to perform mild exercise and to hydrate yourself with plenty of water.

Chiropractic Examinations

Comprehensive Chiropractic Exams & Spinal Health Assessment

Initially, each patient is asked to fill out an appropriate health questionnaire that details your current complaint(s) that the doctor will then use as a template for a thorough history. After the discussion, a thorough physical exam will be performed based on the history findings and a diagnosis will be provided at that time. This gives you, the patient, a clear delineation of what your injuries are.

During the follow-up treatment, the doctor will present you with a report of findings, which will then cover your prognosis, how long it should take to get you back to pre-injury status, and any other questions you might have. We will then discuss the general health of your spine and outline a program detailing the care of your condition(s).

Each visit thereafter, you will be asked to list information specific to your pain or discomfort at that time. This helps to efficiently guide the treatment and gives the patient a clear illustration of their improvement.

Next, we will carefully examine or 'palpate' the entire spinal region to help target the area in which you are experiencing the most pain or discomfort. While pain is a good indicator of where to narrow the treatment, it may not always be the primary area of dysfunction. Which is why full spine and extremity evaluation and treatment may be necessary.

Please remember that we do not simply treat symptoms. We examine and treat the body as a whole and based upon our findings, the doctor will make recommendations and referrals to other health care professionals when necessary.

All examinations and treatments provided by the doctors at Eastside Wellness Center are gentle, safe and effective.

Chiropractic Education

Spinal Health Partnership, Health Care Maintenance, and Common Goals

Chiropractors don't just work on their patients, they work with their patients. We approach spinal and biomechanical health from a team approach with both the doctor and the patient working toward mutual goals. These might include: restoring or increasing your active/passive range of motion, decreasing your overall pain, returning you to pre-injury status and achieving the most simple or complex normal daily activity, whether personal, school, athletic or work related.

We offer educational information via brochures and/or handouts and have a wealth of knowledge regarding your overall, neuromusculoskeletal health.

The doctor will provide you with information that will help you become a more educated consumer. With that in mind, we will teach you stretches/exercises and postural techniques that will help prevent recurrences of your symptoms and may even help reduce the number of visits required to treat certain conditions.
